To hire a domestic helper in Klang Valley or Selangor, certain eligibility criteria must be met, according to the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia. Here's an overview of the key requirements:

- Malaysian Citizens: Must be at least 21 years old and a Malaysian citizen or permanent resident.
- Foreigners: Expatriates who have a resident or working pass
- Valid Reasons: Employers must have a valid reason for hiring a helper, such as childcare (Not above 15 years old), elderly care, or household assistance.

Employer Responsibilities In
Hiring A Foreign Domestic Helper (Maids)
- Employers must ensure that the maid is assigned only to perform household chores (excluding car washing).
- Employers are required to provide suitable accommodation for the maid, complete with basic amenities, nutritious meals, and sufficient rest, including sleeping hours.
- Non-Muslim employers hiring Muslim maids must respect their religious sensitivities by allowing them to:
- Perform daily prayers (five times a day)
- Observe fasting during the month of Ramadan
- Refrain from performing household tasks that contradict Islamic teachings
- Employers must take note that the following are NOT PERMITTED while the maid is holding a Temporary Employment Pass [Pas Lawatan (Kerja Sementara) – PL(KS)]:
- The maid is not allowed to marry a local citizen in Malaysia during the validity of the PL(KS).
- The maid is not allowed to apply for a Residence Pass while holding the PL(KS).
- Employers must ensure that the maid does not change employment sectors or employers without prior approval from the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
- Renewal of the PL(KS) must be submitted to any Immigration Office at least three (3) months before the expiry date.
- For the purpose of renewing the PL(KS) or obtaining an Exit Check Memo, employers are responsible for:
- Keeping records of the maid's salary payments and presenting them to the Immigration Department when requested.
- Ensuring the maid's salary is paid no later than the last week of each month.
- Medical treatment for the maid during the validity period of the PL(KS) is the responsibility of the employer.
- Employers must report to the Immigration Department of Malaysia if the maid:
- Passes away
- Is missing
- Runs away from the designated place of employment
- Employers or employment agencies are strictly prohibited from physically abusing or causing any form of injury to the maid.
- Employers must obtain approval from the Immigration Department for maids who resign, are terminated, or have their pass expired, by applying for an Exit Check Memo for repatriation purposes.
- The Immigration Department of Malaysia reserves the right to revoke any issued pass.
- The Immigration Department of Malaysia has the authority to transfer a maid who has been abused by her employer to a new qualified employer on humanitarian grounds, even without the consent of the original employer.
- Employers who wish to bring their maids to work abroad must notify the embassy or representative office of the maid's country of origin in Malaysia.
- Employers who have been approved to hire maids but fail to comply with the above conditions will be blacklisted from hiring maids in the future.
